IT a priority as businesses prep for recovery

Pessimism regarding the economy will not deter small businesses from investing in new systems, with 50 per cent of those questioned by Iconnyx insisting they will plough money into technology this year.

79 per cent of the 100 organisations polled say that the gloomy financial outlook has not impacted their budgets.  Social media and marketing are two big priorities as businesses attempt to reposition themselves in the increasingly online world and prepare for when the economic recovery begins in earnest.  The appeal of outsourcing, once seen as a sure fire way to control IT costs, has diminished, with just 30 per cent considering the possibility of farming out key parts of their operation.
“It’s really positive to see the strategy of investment despite all the doom and gloom out there.  It shows that smaller businesses are more resilient to current economic uncertainty, and the government should recognise and reward them as a major contributor to the future of UK growth,” says Tim Walker, managing director of Iconnyx.
