Technology becomes the top business spending priority

Following years of neglect, IT investment has become the number one focus for organisations according to analyst Gartner, with company leaders willing to spend on the latest technology to gain an advantage over their competitors.
Half of those questioned claimed that investment in IT is as important as improving sales.  According to the research, bosses are willing to fire financial resources at technology if it gives them an edge in the market place, with 87 per cent believing that the strategic contribution of IT will increase by 2014.
The study also found that fastest-rising priority is to increase and diversify business portfolios through mergers and acquisitions, leading Gartner to recommend that IT managers develop plans to integrate systems migrated from other sources.
“It underlines the fact that that the investments they plan to make are essential to growth and even survival, and that they are willing to throw the investment gauntlet down now, rather than later," says Gartner vice president Jorge Lopez.
